Solar Strikes Out Every Time

Norm Rogers is an excellent analyst because he is.
I know him from his writing and previous take downs of stupid ideas in enviro/energy matters.
He had a successful career as an evil capitalist, and I applaud him for it.
So Norm gets top billing at American Thinker today, but look at the archives and you will see, this ain’t his first rodeo.

Norm is techie the way mature big brains are techie. He knows and is wise. He explains below why it is silly and expensive and wasteful to push solar. How in the name of thunder could the Germans think they can go with solar–they invented gloomy/cloudy in Northern Europe.

Many years ago I wrote a summary of the problems of subsidies and how they distort the energy business.
Not as good as Norm above. From the Heartland Policy Bot archives.

  1. very insightful, very troubling, excellent comment–kinda poetic, sad.

  2. Mmm, yes please, with a side helping of related deaths/significant injuries per category per year (mining accidents, transportation mishaps, power plant melt-downs, etc). A section relating the production costs of each rung in $US/kWh with casualties/kWh would be a sweet bonus. Anyone open to a graph/chart will be imprinted for life.
Then again, anyone clinging to an agenda will look at said graph/chart (if you can GET them to look at it in the first place), take a moment to understand what it says, and then respond with “Oh, those numbers are way off [from what I believe to be true in my green little heart], this graph/chart is garbage,” and walk away.
Just like they do with the Oregon Petition Project. Just like they do with side-by-side comparisons of solar cycles and climate vs. CO2 and climate. Just like they do with paleo-climate records (especially when compared to paleo-CO2 records). Just as they do with actual severe storm data and sea ice measurements.

  3. Would love to see side by side comparison of gas, coal, hydro, nuke and solar, especially at different costs of the various fuels. Also regional comparison of costs of energy due to taxes. Wouldn’t thet be an eye-opener!!
