I am astounded at the ignorance of people about fracking–it doesn’t contaminate ground water, it’s safe and important for progress and energy self sufficiency.
Hysterical reactions and media hype, and of course time for enviro organizations to put out scares to pump up donations.
Marita Noon takes on the screamers below. My friend Sel Graham,an engineer and attorney, was fracking a long time ago. If it was a problem we would know.
And please don’t bite on the silliness that fracking could cause earthquakes–any geologist will tell you ain’thuman activity is gonna move that much of the earths mantel.
Fracking is not new, just more in the public’s eye, horizontal drilling is old, fracking is older.
Sel points out he was involved in fracking that was well developed in the late 50s and early 60s, and horizontal drilling came to be widely used in the 70s and 80s.
Fracking and horizontal drilling take place thousands of feet down, thousands of feet below water tables that are used for humans.
Sleeves on the drill pipe obviously prevent any contamination.
There is no cure for stupid–fracking is the new scare designed to pump up green donations and political activity.
It’s like the fuss over the XL pipeline–if people saw the map of old and not so old pipelines already in place they would say–WAAAAAAt the hell is going on, people fraid of everything?
Thanks Marita–nice work. Sad to here your stories of numbskulls who belong to the Gaia/Pantheism high holy church of true believers.

Rail is not as safe as pipeline, for sure.

The rail connection: Look at the fire and explosion in ND, and Keystone isn’t safe?
It won’t matter. The true believers have never been about the science, but about saving Mother Gaea by forcing you to do or not do something they decide on. All you have to do is chat with them a bit on Yahoo! News (sic) and you’ll see visceral spew of hate and self deluded dreams of power and authority like you won’t believe.
Same with the CAGW crowd, or any other crusade of so-called progressive thinking (sic). Some wags say liberalism is a mental disease. I beg to differ. I believe it attracts the mentally ill, not create them.
Combs, you are a treasure. I am making my recommendation to Mr. M.
the big boy.

A good site with the history of Fracking: http://aoghs.org/technology/shooters-well-fracking-history/
The technique was first patented just after the CIVIL WAR!
[QUOTE]For more than 100 years, nitroglycerin detonations increased a well’s production from petroleum bearing formations. Modern hydraulic fracturing technology can trace its roots to April 25, 1865, when Civil War veteran Col. Edward A. L. Roberts received the first of his many patents for an “exploding torpedo.”…

Allen, thanks for that. Talked to Sel Graham an awl engineer who told me he was fracking in the 50s and horizontal drilling in the 70s.
I agree with your point. I would also say that the XL pipeline was opposed by people paid by the saudis and warren buffet, who was doing well with train transport of Bakken gold.
Joe Herring of Omaha exposed Buffets perfidy–did you know that Gates has an interest in the Canadian rail that tranports north of the border. XL pipe maybe nothing more than a new pipe among many other older ones, but three major interests don’t want it. gates, saudis and buffett. Of course they can get enviro support–its progress and they hate progress.

Fracking has been in widespread use since the end of WW2 and no one noticed. It was not until it was considered a threat to OPEC oil that the hysteria broke loose and it became a boogeyman.
Green: The color of OPEC money.
