A lesson in the folly of correlation. But can one expect from a sociologist?
University of Delaware associated professor of sociology Aaron Kupchik writes in the WashPost today:
A 2011 study published in the Journal of Police Crisis Negotiations, conducted by researchers at the University of South Florida and Loyola University in New Orleans with data from the National Center for Education Statistics, found that schools with security guards and guards who bear firearms have higher rates of serious violent crime than do similar schools that lack such personnel.
But aren’t the guards in schools because of the already higher rates of violence, rather than vice-versa?
I think it is true both ways. Firstly, if the guards are present then students with their pre-mature mindset get influenced to get into serious nasty things. Secondly, If a school already has a high crime rate then it becomes a necessity for them to hire guards.

I have to laugh at all the idiots that think by limiting the types of weapons one may legally obtain that it will somehow stop the lunatic that wants to commit mass murder. All these regulations do is make it harder for the law abiding citizen to protect themselves. The only thing that will stop these nutjobs is force – often deadly force.

Similarly with respect to the death penalty. A death penalty results from homicide rates that are frustratingly high.
I’m surprised the liberals don’t back the idea of armed guards in schools, back it all the way. Seriously.
Wouldn’t armed guards in schools be the best way to raise kids to be comfortable with the idea of being unarmed in a police state?

They have armed guards and metal detectors in the inner city schools in Cleveland. They have been there for years. They are there to keep the inmates from killing each other. Seems to be working.
Exactly. And I would like to call BS on that study. I bwt they cherry picked the schools they have studied. We’ve had armed officers in Texas since Columbine and onw thing we do not have is mass shootings in our high schools. Funny how that works.
