Johns Hopkins' embarrassment: MS in global warming BS

Johns Hopkins University is now offering a master’s degree program in global warming alarmism.

According to the program’s web site:

Graduates will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the science related to a changing climate and global warming, knowledge of the impacts of climate change, vulnerability of natural systems and the built environment, and methods for adaptation.

If you haven’t yet got the drift, the program’s only science course, “Science of Climate Change and Its Impact,” further narrows study as follows:

While natural changes will be studied, the emphasis will be on anthropogenic climate change.

To graduate, students need to complete a curriculum consisting of at least nine courses (costing $3,020 each) and a master’s thesis.

For the first modern research university established in the United States and the #1-ranked science research institution in America (not to mention the alma mater of the Junkman), this MS-in-BS is too sad for words.

If you want to be brainwashed on climate, that’s easy enough to do on the Internet virtually for free. If you need proof that you’ve been brainwashed, JunkScience.com will be happy to sell you a diploma for a lot less than $30,000.

Oh well, at least Hopkins alumni can still enjoy the school’s terrific men’s lacrosse team.

  1. My niece just graduated from ASU with a degree in sustainability and public psychology, whatever that is.

Going to the commencement ceremonies, I listened to the Dean of the “new college” mumble, produce non sentences, and emit non-sequitor phrases wihtout let during her “speech”.

With such a non-literate “educator” or refuge for a idiotic non Science, I was not surprised to find my niece unable to find any interest, by any potential employer, for her non education.

  2. I would look at the money trail on this degree program. The federal govenment is falling all over itself to spend billions of dollars to promote CAGW. I suspect someone wrote a proposal to establish this degree program. JH probably got $50 milllion to do this. Students may get $50 thousand fellowships to enroll in the program.

Unfortunalely, graduates from this program, if any are foolish enough to accept the bail and enroll, will have problems finding a job when CAGW frinally disappears.

  3. When I was at Harvard in the mid 1960’s, one could take courses in “classical” Freudian Psychoanalytic theory, and one could major in “Social Relations,” using credits such as the Freud course. Tim Leary and Alpert lectured on topic such as, “Tune in, turn on, and drop out.” Tragically, students swallowed that swill just as they will now swallow the AGW swill. Let us hope and pray that minimal damage is done to our great and exceptional nation while this, like former and probably future acado-tainment fads play out.
Remember, at the end of the day, the life blood of the acado-tainment industry is ATTENTION. Publications, invitations to meetings, memberships in the popularity clubs, and, of course, grants, are all forms of ATTENTION. One cannot get attention by simply saying, “things are fine !” Calamity, outrage, crisis, outrageous theories about sex and being – that will get you attention !

  4. JH presents another example of Ignorant and unaware of it.

Tens of billions of dollars (grants from the deep pockets of governments) have been wasted in futile efforts to prove that added CO2 caused Global Warming. An unpaid engineer with a desk-top computer and using simple engineering analysis has discovered what really determined the average global temperature history since 1895.

Part of the discovery is a simple equation, based on the physical phenomena involved, with inputs of sunspot number and other accepted measurements from government agencies, that calculates the average global temperatures (agt) since 1895 with 88.4% accuracy (87.9% if CO2 is assumed to have no influence). The equation, links to the source data, an eye-opening graph of the results and how they are derived are in the pdfs at http://climaterealists.com/index.php?tid=145&linkbox=true (see especially the pdfs made public on 4/10/10, and 3/10/11).

  5. Maybe this has more to do with grants, than any serious grad program. I can see the money flowing to Johns Hopkins, and to the participating students. Is there room for me to get in on milking the green cow?

  6. University educations have long been politically controlled, ever since the Federal government decided to become a ‘benefactor’ to ‘higher education’.
“Whoever has the gold makes the rules.” is still the Golden Rule.

  7. Sadly, many of our country’s schools are capitalizing on environmental politics. Science is no longer science, but “applied science,” politics and ideologies; research is no longer research, but marketing.

The Colorado School of Mines’ mission statement, for example, now says:
“Colorado School of Mines is a highly selective public research university devoted to engineering and applied science. Mines has distinguished itself by developing a curriculum and research program geared toward responsible stewardship of the Earth and its resources. The world faces a crisis in balancing resource availability with environmental protection, and Mines and its programs are critical to the solution.”

It, along with “scientific” research institutes like NREL in Golden Colorado, have formed the CO Renewable Energy Collaboratory. Its mission is focused on carbon management and alternative “renewable energy” sources solar, wind and biofuels.

Degrees don’t mean what they used to.
