Will we go extinct? There’s some thought that humans have already passed through a near-extinction event, related to the Toba eruption about 70,000 years ago, that may have reduced our total global population down to 15,000 people or fewer in southern Africa. That theory is questioned by some who cite the possibility of other survivng bands of humans. Either interpretation offers us hope for our species: humans can survive horrible catastrophes and rebuild.
Which means the question may not be so much “will we die out” as “will we wish we had.” If humans were to go extinct, the earth would at least have a chance to repair itself, evolve new biodiversity, and move on. But having the globe sprinkled with scattered bands of a few hundred survivors, each desperately scraping whatever sustenance might come from the planet their ancestors ruined? That’s a much more frightening prospect for both the planet and our great great grandchildren.
Funny, I’ve never heard of someone losing a limb from “heat bite”, but I know a few people who have from FROSTbite. This idiot Is too stupid to live, let alone being left alone with a computer unsupervised by an adult.
And as has been mentioned, they’re never willing to show us the courage of their convictions and off themselves so as to lead the rest of us.
Of course, everyone on the A ark died from a disease caught from a dirty telephone receiver. So maybe we just have to put up with them? Perhaps we can figure out a way to limit the damage they cause though.

I can’t help but think of “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” about how the Earth was populated by lawyers and telephone sanitation experts because they didn’t have actual skills to help out their home planet.

“Harness the Earths renewable resources”, give me a break. The technology has been around for 100 years, if it provided superior power, it would have taken over already.

Not many of those around, Matt. Those communes don’t tend to last very long. Once they find out how much HARD WORK is involved in growing food, they tend to drift back to the City.

Liberalism creates a feedback loop. It is usually impossible for a non-liberal to change a liberal’s mind about political issues because liberalism works like so: only liberals are credible sources of information. How do you know someone’s liberal? He espouses liberal doctrine. So, no matter how plausible what you say may be, it will be ignored if you’re not a liberal and if you are a liberal, of course, you probably agree with liberal views. This sort of close-mindedness makes liberals nearly impervious to any information that might undermine their beliefs.

Fortunately, in a mass human die off, the lefties will likely be the first to go. Their dependence on the government and their near complete absence in any of the professions that produce basis human needs such as food and shelter will doom them.
I live on I95 and get to see the mass migrations from the cold and plates farther north than New York. Also see car carriers with northern and Canadian cars moving about. Must be the folks who didn’t survive more than a few hours in warm weather. 🙂
I liked the part about humans not being able to survive but a few hours or a few days at 100% humidity and 95°F. There are many places on earth that are very hot and very humid and people seem to thrive. A/C was not all that prevalent until the ’70’s and later. Just how did the human race survive until then? How have we survived without the current day technological advancements? Heck, I lived in New Orleans from 1975-1980, drove a car w/o A/C and did all kinds of outdoor things, including 5+ mile runs in that kind of weather. I didn’t notice and haven’t noticed mass human extinctions because it got hot and humid.

I especially liked the part of the article where the author explains why Obama is not doing more to fight CO2. Why? Because it is too late to save the planet! The near extinction of humanity is already set in stone!
I couldn’t help but think of a celluloid Hollywood Doctor holding the hand of some fictional ten year old patient as the child wheezes on his death bed. “Sure, Timmy! Sure, you’ll get better — don’t ever think you won’t! Why, I bet you’ll be playing baseball again as soon as the snow melts!” The child’s old Aunt wipes a surreptitious tear. The family dog gazes uncomprehendingly at his young master. Wise old Doctor Obama gently touches the boy’s cheek while the doomed child falls asleep in a fatal, blissful ignorance…
