Conservatives can be persuaded to care more about the environment, study finds

“New research from the University of California, Berkeley, suggests that [skeptic] viewpoints can be changed after all, when the messages about the need to be better stewards of the land are couched in terms of fending off threats to the “purity” and “sanctity” of Earth and our bodies.’ [UC Berkeley] Someone has apparently taken Dr. Strangelove‘s Col. Jack Ripper a little too seriously…

  1. AND, framing the anti-conservative / anti-skeptic media narratives around premises that are false from the start. If somebody from Greenpeace or the NWF or WWF were completely unaware of my writings about the long-term smear of skeptic climate scientists and only saw my enviro efforts, I’d be welcomed into their ranks as a super tree-hugger.

  2. This whole thing appears to be an exercise in reinforcing the environmentalists’ sterotypes of conservatives.

  3. Political conservatives have a range of views on environmental issues. As some “environmentalists” and “progressives” pretend to care about the environment while really hating liberty, some conservatives really are okay with pollution.
Even political conservatives generally recognize a need for some government regulation of real pollution — “everyone lives downstream” is true. Many political conservatives are also good environmental stewards. Our grave concern is that the necessary rules have been the basis for the unnecessary rules; the EPA has become what many thought it would become, a regulatory nightmare.

  4. First, conservatives are among the most concerned about the environment. Second, the environment in developed countries is doing JUST FINE and largely due to our clean up efforts starting with the Clean Air Act of 1970. Since that time we’ve reduced the levels of the 6 top pollutants by 57% while we’re using 72% more electricity and driving collectively 94% more miles.

Third, concern about cleaning up pollution occurs AS A MATTER OF course in every society once it reaches a certain level of prosperity.

Finally and most importantly NONE OF THIS has anything to do with CO2 (which is the real agenda behind “studies” like this), for the simple reason that CO2 is colorless, odorless and tasteless — there’s nothing to ‘get disgusted’ about.

  5. I don’t think conservatives don’t care about the environment. Its just that they aren’t willing to subjugate man to the environment based on what seems like an obvious con job.
