Krugman: Deniers are ‘immoral’ and commit ‘treason’ by opposing Waxman-Markey
New York Times columnist Paul Krugman seems ready to form a lynch mob for opponents of Waxman-Markey.
Krugman wrote today that,
And as I watched the deniers make their arguments, I couldn’t help thinking that I was watching a form of treason — treason against the planet.
Krugman added:
… To fully appreciate the irresponsibility and immorality of climate-change denial, you need to know about the grim turn taken by the latest climate research.
The fact is that the planet is changing faster than even pessimists expected: ice caps are shrinking, arid zones spreading, at a terrifying rate. And according to a number of recent studies, catastrophe — a rise in temperature so large as to be almost unthinkable — can no longer be considered a mere possibility. It is, instead, the most likely outcome if we continue along our present course…
Blah… blah…. blah… as Patrick Henry told the Virginia House of Burgesses on May 30, 1765:
“Caesar had his Brutus; Charles the First his Cromwell; and George the Third may profit by their example. If this be treason, make the most of it!”
The American Revolution was started by British policies more justified and less oppressive than Waxman-Markey.
Ignominious Eight: House GOP-ers for W-M
The following eight Republicans voted FOR Waxman-Markey and were instrumental in helping the bill to pass today. They should be targeted for defeat in the 2010 election.
The Ignominious Eight are:
Mary Bono Mack (R-CA)
Mike Castle (R-DE)
Mark Steven Kirk (R-IL)
Leonard Lance (R-NJ)
Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ)
John McHugh (R-NY)
Dave Reichert (R-WA)
Chris Smith (R-NJ)

Hurray for John Boehner!
Rep. Nunes hits nail on head…
Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) pitied Waxman-Markey supporters today as yielding to “the twisted desires of radical environmentalists.”
At least someone gets it…
Neal: Alarmism is the ‘science of our times’
Rep. Richard Neal (D-MA) said that it was hard to work with Republicans because many of them reject global warming, which Neal called “the science of out times.”
Sheesh of the day: Cantor says removing CO2 a ‘noble endeavor’
Amid a pretty could floor speech against Waxman-Markey, Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) inexplicably said that “removing CO2 from the atmosphere is a noble endeavor.”
God save us from our friends…
Scaredy-CAT: USCAP member switches on W-M
Energy & Environment News reports that heavy-equipment manufacturer Caterpillar now opposes Waxman-Markey:
“We cannot endorse this bill in its current form,” Caterpillar Chairman and CEO Jim Owens wrote in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) yesterday. “Despite our efforts to improve portions of the bill, specific provisions relating to non-road equipment, black carbon, border measures and other critical issues remain problematic.”
Owens was a fool to ever think that global warming legislation would work for his company.
BTW, Greenpeace also now opposes W-M because it
…has been so heavily influenced by the coal and oil industries…
Butterfield: W-M ‘literally will save the planet’
Rep. G.K. Butterfield says that Waxman-Markey “literally will save the planet.”
Phew…
McCotter: W-M ‘nuts on its face’
Rep. Thadeus McCotter (R-MI) declaimed Waxman-Markey as “nuts on its face.”
