Whitfield hits EPA mercury rule for no mercury benefits

The EPA’s Mercury Air Toxics Standard is misnamed.

In questioning EPA air chief Gina McCarthy at today’s hearing, Kentucky Congressman Ed Whitfield made the following two points:

  • EPA has no idea how much the Mercury Air Toxics Standards will cost; and
  • Despite the rule’s name, the rule actually provides no direct benefits from mercury reduction.
