One of the hallmarks of a conspiracy theory is that what reasonable people would call ‘unintended consequences’ of an action are implied to have been intentional from the outset, with the motive being malice and/or personal gain at the expense of others.
I believe Ms. Mayer’s thesis satisfies this criterion.
She seems to assume that the Tea Party, opposition to Obamacare, and climate change are all universally bad – a position which has many opponents.
Personally my disagreement with Ms. Mayer on these issues has received absolutely no financial support.
