Record Lows and Stranded Ice Cruizers

More record lows for America than record highs.
Not proof of cooling or warming, but not helpful for warmers–who now have to rejigger the models or talk loud.
Questions to consider–it is cold all the time in the Antarctic, so why does it surprise anyone that there might be more Ice.
Even in the summer precipitation in Antarctica makes snow, snow makes ice. Right?

Cold facts: More record lows than highs in USA in 2013

  1. The full-scale privatization of space will be the only way any of us mere mortals get to go. When commercial space service providers make their money primarily by way of private customers rather than government contracts, that will be a good day. On the other hand, the road is not likely to be bump-free. As it happens, Branson is one big reason why sub orbital passenger flights are only just now getting the test phases off the ground, as opposed to 20+ years ago when he was 1st approached with the idea.

  2. ” I am pleased that Roy Spencer has a satellite deal that can eliminate the cheating that gov agencies do.”
A step in the right direction perhaps, but the government agencies control the satellites. One of my most controversial political advisements has always been privatising NASA. Sadly I doubt it will happen, but maybe that Virgin records guy can take up the slack. Still, I’d love to see the orbiter covered in stickers like a nascar.

  3. excellent points, all. I was going to do the Watts siting thing, but decided to see if someone would jump in. I am pleased that Roy Spencer has a satellite deal that can eliminate the cheating that gov agencies do.
one of the sites that Watts pointed out is a parking lot site in Lampasas, Texas, which is a town just south of me, the previous reporting site was in the country but the farmer couldn’t or wouldn’t do it anymore, so they justmoved it to conveniet

  4. The problem with the record highs being more than the lows is that much of that was due to heat island effects. If you look at the siting of these stations you would see them in places that would suggest that the purpose was to make the temp higher than lower (I do not think that was the reason, but the affect of the measurement system used.). Some of these stations were placed next to BBQ grills, condenser units for air conditioners, in the middle of parking lots, at the end of runways at the airport, and the list goes on. So, yes, it is interesting how these stations were showing even higher temps. What is more amazing is that even with this bias last year showed record lows outpacing highs.
