When people ask me what I am I say–a physician.
I have met so many fine minds who feel the same way about their work–they are physicists.
Howard Hayden is one example
I was reminded because today I got to Hayden’s latest monthly newsletter The Energy Advocate and every time I read the newsletter Howard teaches me something.
This January issue starts off on the reason why plate tectonics make the talk about the seas rising sometimes misleading, for example the Pacific Plate moves west at 7 cm a year, and as a result now Mauna Loa, which rises 56,000 feet from the ocean floor, is moving over a magma hot spot that pushes the surrounding areas in the Hawaiian Islands up while the heavy big mountain which is the Big Island of Hawaii in the chain, sinks a little.
The second lesson is on Antarctic temps and the third on some basic physics as it relates to Scaling and how big bodies, living or not, follow the laws of thermodynamics which is why small bodies radiate a much higher energy proportionately than big bodies.
Some esoteric commentary on radiative energy, a short item showing why commercial aircraft have wings that are cocked up and fighters have straight wings and
The best one, Domino sugar has now come out with a package that claims it is Carbon Free. Well I don’t know much but I do know that sugar is a di-saccaride with 12 carbons. They must be thinking in terms of carbon free attitude or something.
I recommend you consider Hayden’s newsletter, good for autodidacts. Physicists always are.

Yep. Sorry, I think Dr. Hayden is old fashioned, sends me his news letter in an envelope with a stamp on it.
Great lecturer too.
He does have an email address though, that he provides in the info section of his newsletter, The Energy Advocate.
