Citing President Obama’s call from last week’s climate speech for federal agencies to help communities prepare for extreme weather events, NOAA said yesterday that it will begin releasing monthly drought outlooks, or MDOs.

Citing President Obama’s call from last week’s climate speech for federal agencies to help communities prepare for extreme weather events, NOAA said yesterday that it will begin releasing monthly drought outlooks, or MDOs.
“The verification and evaluation of these dynamical models is ongoing, but early results have been promising, especially with regard to precipitation,” said Mr. Miskus. “Additional improvements to dynamical forecasting models depends on continued funding of these projects and computer resources in both the U.S. and foreign weather services.”
More models and note they “depend on continued funding.” It’s always about the money….always.
Flash drought? I thought a drought was a sustained period of diminished rainfall. How can that be a “flash”? By its nature, a drought is seasonal rather than monthly, or so I’d have thought.
