You’re probably right. Especially your last statement.
In spite of the existence of “low information Americans” out there, I can’t imagine you will ever hear, “Climate change? What’s that?” or “Breast cancer? Never heard of it!”
I’m less afraid of what people don’t know than what they know that isn’t so.
You know, I would hope that people had all heard of the causes that are out there “raising awareness”, but given the state of science, the tendency of people to live online and spend hours on theirs cell phones talking about nothing, maybe we are just paying more attention that most. Maybe the “outside” world really is that clueless?
Honestly, have you ever heard about someone raising awareness about something you didn’t already know about?
The man is a complete idiot.

He just raised my awareness of the cutting down of trees for frivolous purposes.

At least he’s recycling….
Perfect! Pooping in the river – and then drinking the water. he can rediscover Cholera.
I’ve never understood the “raise awareness” draw for things like this. This isn’t like when the monk immolated himself to draw attention to the persecution of Buddhists by the South Vietnamese, where his cause was unknown to the wider world. This is one of the hottest topics in the world.
However, as the commenters pointed out, he made an expensive wooden houseboat with what appears to be no sewage treatment, and must transport his food. If you look at it objectively, he will have a much higher environmental impact than if he had stayed home.
