Nuclear power industry commits suicide by stoking climate fears

  1. This is exactly the kind of rent-seeking, even when self-destructive, that the Founders foresaw and hoped to reduce. The Commerce Clause was to give Congress authority over tariff and currency matters and to prevent barriers to trade between states. It was not meant to give Congress authority over how electricity is generated, only that its interstate trade would proceed easily. Montana exports coal as rocks but also as electrical power to the West Coast.

  2. It is unbelievable how much self-destructive behavior comes out of the electric power industry. Companies openly advocate for excessive, destructive regulation if they believe it will hurt their competitors more than their own companies. The natural gas companies are the worst, but nuclear companies hold their own. The coal companies are too busy fending off attacks to launch a decent offensive. If electricity weren’t so vital to the country I’d wish a pox all their homes.
