America currently rests in the quandary between between these two quotes. And, yes, the two quotes examine the worst case scenario of revolution. But I was more speaking of the necessity of change and less to the idea of waging an actual war. It IS time for a change. If we can do that without war, all the better. But it’s an unarguable fact that we need to change the current situation in Washington.
Actually, people quite often do not do anything until the sheriff shows up to evict them. As a credit counselor, the rate of success was probably well under 50%. Let’s be honest–old habits are hard to break and it takes a lot of discipline to get out of the mess you’ve dug yourself into. So we stay with our heads in the sand until some large, snarly creature comes by and bites our butt (which is a true surprise to many people–their vulnerability in hiding from reality is not something they acknowledge). Then the head comes out of the sand and we either fight or run. Why would the government be any different? So watch out for that large, snarly creature and be ready for flight or fight!

Violent rebellion must be kept as a last resort when all others are long exhausted. However, government responsibility is certainly a better reason than slavery to do so.

Our founders went to war over a 3 cent tax on a 3 cent deck of cards. How much taxation will we suffer before we realize that Washington has become the new King George? Doesn’t anybody else think it’s time for a change?

It won’t. As you suggest, they will change their behavior to produce less.

The U.S. government is spending beyond its means. It is spending beyond the means of the planet. The government can take measures to bring spending under control, or continue to spend until it hits the wall of there being no more money. There is a natural debt ceiling where no one will lend them money anymore. Is it $20T? I don’t know, but we are certainly approaching the limit.
New taxes are a net negative on the economy, hence on government revenue. The House has agreed to punt responsibility down the road. Brinksmanship to the real fiscal cliff.
As I noted on a different thread, the only cure is to make sure NONE of those who voted “yea” are ever re-elected. As for the economy, buy nothing you don’t absolutely need, earn just enough to stay below the tax increase, etc. Why prolong the inevitable? Why support theft and welfare?
It is going to take pain, like govt. layoffs, and defaults before the takers finally realize nothing is free. I am sure the republicans can sell that with the national media backing democrats. Hence, hard times coming. Hold on to your cash.
The only Tea Party public statements you hear now are from fake national groups that are establishment co-opts, such as Tea Party Nation and TheTeaParty.net. Mark Levin led a response to the failed Plan B but as you suggest he’s on holiday this week. He’s the only big radio guy who’s into activism. I assume no one mistakes swamp dweller Norquist for a Tea Partier. Since the election he’s been co-opting them big time, talking as if he knows “their plans.” His pals are in the co-opt group TheTeaParty.net.
