At UCLA Law on Monday, February 13, Dr. Michael Mann will discuss his new book, “The Hockey Stick and the Climate Wars: Dispatches from the Front Lines.” Dr. Mann is one of the founders of the RealClimate blog and a key figure in the climate email controversy from November 2009. Dr. Mann is known for his outspoken defense of climate scientists and, in a October 2010 Washington Post editorial, called on fellow scientists to “stand up to blatant abuse from politicians who seek to mislead and distract the public” on the issue of climate change. Dr. Mann was a Lead Author on the Observed Climate Variability and Change chapter of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Third Scientific Assessment Report in 2001 and shared the Nobel Prize with other IPCC authors in 2007.
The implication here is you guys are creating a binding contract by publicly publishing this offer. That means if 1000 people go down there and make videos, you will be on the hook for a $500,000 pay out. You could possibly be on the hook for 1000 copies of the same video. This is well established law. You might want to consult a lawyer if you doubt this.
You might want to familiarize yourselves with the legal implications of what you’re offering.
