Barton hits EPA on science, economics at hearing

Texas Congressman Joe Barton today attacked the EPA’s Mercury Air Toxics Standard as not being based on sound science and economics.

Barton’s two main points in his opening statement were that:

  • EPA offered no evidence that there are comparatively more hospital emergency admissions among populations near coal plants; and
  • Coal miners, but not paper-shuffling bureaucrats, create economic wealth.
