Good news for people and plants — bad for hypertensive greens.
The Associated Press reports,
The global output of heat-trapping carbon dioxide jumped by the biggest amount on record, the U.S. Department of Energy calculated, a sign of how feeble the world’s efforts are at slowing man-made global warming.
The new figures for 2010 mean that levels of greenhouse gases are higher than the worst case scenario outlined by climate experts just four years ago.
“The more we talk about the need to control emissions, the more they are growing,” said John Reilly, co-director of MIT’s Joint Program on the Science and Policy of Global Change.
The world pumped about 564 million more tons (512 million metric tons) of carbon into the air in 2010 than it did in 2009. That’s an increase of 6 percent. That amount of extra pollution eclipses the individual emissions of all but three countries — China, the United States and India, the world’s top producers of greenhouse gases…

i was told by someone at junkscience that co2 levels have been many many times higher than at present in the past…how can they say accurately then that co2 has increased a record amount??
Bernard77 – Why is it that pseudo intellectuals like yourself always pretend that those with different viewpoints must be ignorant? Perhaps you should educate yourself to the temperature fluctuations on Venus and Mars; those fluctuations precisely follow temperature changes on Earth. Maybe aliens are transporting our excess CO2 to Venus and Mars. I’m told that aliens are really benevolent individuals who are trying to save us from ourselves.
Everything’s an estimate, but this is as good as any on this scale. CO2 emissions are measured by financial reports of mining and drilling companies planetwide.

Mr. Larsen, you need to educate yourself on these issues. The fact that the Earth is warming even as there is a solar minimum is indicative that the human-driven global warming hypothesis is correct.
And yet, the sun goes into a solar minimum and the earth’s surface cools enough to give more hurricanes, tornadoes and early snow. Maybe there is no correlation with trace organic elements and the earth’s surface warming and cooling. What if the sun heats and cools the earth? What a concept!
So is this a measured number and if so how is it done or some model somewhere that is detached from reality. Also did the Co2 level increase by the same percentage. Reads like a scare piece based on someones model.
