The Perry Effect: Romney revises climate view

Mitt Romney is inching toward becoming a climate skeptic.

As reported by Reuters:

Asked about global warming at a town hall meeting in Lebanon, New Hampshire, Romney said he believed the world is getting hotter and humans contribute in some way to the change — but could not judge to what extent.

“Do I think the world’s getting hotter? Yeah, I don’t know that but I think that it is,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s mostly caused by humans.”

“What I’m not willing to do is spend trillions of dollars on something I don’t know the answer to.”

Contrast yesterday’s comments with those made by Romney in June:

I believe the world is getting warmer, and I believe that humans have contributed to that. It’s important for us to reduce our emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases that may be significant contributors.

So Romney seems to have at least moved away from the “we gotta do something” mentality.

  1. Hey Mitt. Why don’t you quickly form the RINO party as a subdivision of the Dem party, and be it’s candidate, and poster child. The Dims are stuck with Nobama, but would really like to vote for someone just like their savior in chief. You, being Obama lite will fit the bill perfectly.

One more thing Mitty. Saying you are a Republican, and a conservative is like fingernails scratching the chalkboard.

  2. “I support the left, though I’m leaning to the right. But I’m just not there, when I know it’s coming to a fight.”

Politician by Jack Bruce from the Cream days.

  3. What I find appalling is that politicians are not merely ignorant of science but can’t understand that when predictions fail, as all of the 1998 IPCC models did, it means that the theory behind them is inadequate at best, and totally wrong at worst.

Politicians have no sense of objective reality because for them everything is a matter of producing an image that people will vote for. It’s why they flip-flop to pick up a few points in the polls and also why they can never be trusted to do what they say.

  4. Romney knows he is losing because of his AGW stance and he will say anything to get elected. This is just more proof that he cannot be trusted. There is also no proof that Perry won’t try to continue to grow our ever more intrusive and out of control government, but at this point anyone is better than president downgrade.

  5. While he “revised” his view, he still waffled all over the point that he believes CO2 emissions to be “pollution” a little later in the interview.
