  1. “Excessive consumption of fructose can cause many of the same health problems as alcohol.”
We all remember how the government regulation of alcohol worked out, don’t we? It was called “Prohibition” and it aggravated the very problems the pie-eyed authoritarians hoped to eliminate: alcoholism, crime, health problems, etc. and created new ones as people turned to unsafe, untested, unproven alternatives that were worse than the original ‘problem.’ People consumed Sterno(r), made ‘bathtub gin,’ drank after shave and mouthwash, wood alcohol, and even denatured alcohol with gasoline or benzene in it.
The alternatives to sugar as a sweetener are things like Aspartame, cyclamates, saccharine, and dubious plant extracts which not only aggravate the ‘sweet tooth’ but some even cause direct damage, with the liver and kidneys (tasked to flush exotic poisons from the bloodstream) taking the brunt of it.

  2. “Help me! I just can’t stop eating that sugar.” That’s the argument? What about potato chips–I find those addictive and eat the whole bag. So potato chips get regulated? What about honey and other forms of sugars other than the refined, white type? Does the government need to regulate those? If not, manufacturers will just substitute honey or other sugars for the table type. Or artificial sweeteners, as noted in the previous comment. Perhaps the objective is to remove all sweetness form our lives…..

  4. How about the big stink about “High fructose corn syrup”? Sugar is sugar is sugar!
One type is not necessarily worse for you than another. Only people with known metabolic problems (Like diabetes) should worry about sugar in their foods.

  5. These regulators are morons and should be thrown in jail.

  6. “Was the government to prescribe to us our medicine and diet, our bodies would be in such keeping as our souls are now. Thus in France the emetic was once forbidden as a medicine, and the potato as an article of food.”
“If we can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of caring for them, they will be happy.”

“It is not the function of our government to keep the citizen from falling into error; it is the function of the citizen to keep the government from falling into error.”
