{"id":10075,"date":"2012-01-22T10:54:40","date_gmt":"2012-01-22T15:54:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/junkscience.com\/?p=10075"},"modified":"2012-01-22T10:54:40","modified_gmt":"2012-01-22T15:54:40","slug":"teaching-against-climate-change-deniers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/junkscience.com\/2012\/01\/teaching-against-climate-change-deniers\/","title":{"rendered":"Teaching against climate change deniers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;The tragic aspect of all such eco-brainwashing is that the scientific method is being bastardized as our students are being told what to think, not how to think.&#8221;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Brian Sussman <a href=\"http:\/\/www.humanevents.com\/article.php?id=48928\">writes<\/a> at <em>Human Events<\/em>,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This month, the National Center for Science Education (NCSE), a nonprofit group that denounces intelligent design and supports evolution-only curricula in the classroom, is expanding its mission. The organization is determined to silence global warming deniers, and is unfurling an aggressive effort to teach America\u2019s schoolchildren that climate change is real and is being caused by human activity&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The NCSE has created a website filled with propaganda aimed at equipping educators with rhetoric to denounce what they describe as, \u201cThe Pillars of Climate-Change Denial.\u201d The pillars are actually an accurate self-indictment of the global warming movement.  For example, the first pillar states deniers believe, \u201cClimate change is bad science\u201d&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>As a prime example of what the NCSE intends, the University of California at Berkeley operates the website GlobalWarmingKids.net.  On the site, instructors can order \u201cGlobal Warming for Young Minds,\u201d a handbook aimed at 6- to 10-year-olds. It also offers \u201cLet\u2019s Stop Climate Change\u201d DVDs, in which Simon the hippopotamus encourages children to take action against the dangers presented by global warming.<\/p>\n<p>In the class projects section of a similar website, HotStuffChillOut.org, school kids are told, \u201cWe all know about climate change. We all know what to expect.
