No wonder Chinese-owned Volvo trucks is trying to kill off the American glider truck industry.
Here’s the regulatory scam in a nutshell as reported by Bloomberg: “Volvo has sold about 700,000 trucks in North America and Europe since 2014, when stricter emissions rules were implemented.”
Volvo and the rest of the new truck industry supported Obama EPA efforts to tighten emissions standards so that they could sell more expensive trucks.
But the existence of the small US glider truck industry posed an existential threat to this swampy regulator-rentseeker scam. Despite new trucks costing about 33% more, real-world new truck emissions are about the same as glider truck emissions — and neither is a threat to public health or the environment.
Keep in mind that Cummins — another new truck company that is part of the scam — just recalled 500,000 trucks because its expensive emissions control junk doesn’t work either.
Despite these failures, the new trucks industry is lobbying the EPA is further tighten NOx standards so that they can raise the prices of their junk trucks even more.
