  1. Starvation diets (1,000 calorie) slow the body’s metabolism and burn the fat. Once the body has lost the fat the metabolism is lowered and the body will turn calories into fat to prepare for another starvation episode. This leads to “yo yo dieting” and increasing weight gains. It is observed on POWs that were starved for months and once they returned to a normal diet, the calories were all turned to fat.
