It mirrors the evolutionary process for the development of species’ specializations, for example the diversification of Darwin’s finches. To quote Heinlein, “Specialization is for insects.”
One of my favorite Darwin quotes: ‘I am quite conscious that my speculations run quite beyond the bounds of true science.’ All speculation is beyond science. That is why we have the scientific method – experimental design, empirical measurement, and comparison of data and theory. We must distinguish those ‘speculations’ that closely describe the real world from those that do not.
Too many ‘climate scientists’ fail to recognize that the output of computer models is merely high-tech speculation, lying beyond the realm of science until the scientific method can sort them out and determine the limits of their utility.
