It has become an article of faith in certain segments of the population that renewable energy is destined to become an obvious success. Well, once upon a time there was a renewable energy that was a success. We called it “wood”. We cut it up and split it and burned it in fireplaces and wood stoves. And we roasted our shins while we froze our backsides. And we bought and wore woolen long handle underwear in winter because that was the only way to actually stay warm.
