  1. As a Maryland resident, our former governor, Martin O’Malley, created a $1.50 a month tax on all residential electric bills and 1.5% tax on all commercial electric bills to support offshore wind which won’t start development for at least 2 years from now. The residential fee hits everyone regardless of income and manufacturing companies, where some of the best blue collar jobs are, have some of the highest electric bills in the region. This is nothing more than a burden on low and middle income earners that will likely send more jobs out of state and off shore. As much as I like living around here, I’m tired of the monolithic politics. I wouldn’t expect the governor to sign this bill but it looks like there are more than enough votes to over ride a veto.
