Claim: California methane leak threatens local people – and the global climate

Nope.

A few points:

  1. Methane is irrelevant as a greenhouse gas.
  2. The mercaptan added so that people can smell the gas leak is what’s making people sick, not the methane per se.
  3. Ignoring Point No. 1, the leak as negated the past four years of California CO2 cuts.

  1. Radiation that gets absorbed by atmospheric gases becomes heat in the air.
Radiation that doesn’t get absorbed by atmospheric gases reaches the ground, where it gets absorbed by land and water, becoming heat in whatever the air touches, which then heats the air.
Either way, the air gets heated by incoming radiation whether there are absorbent gases or not.
The atmospheric ‘greenhouse effect’ is bogus.
