Conditions such as the one in the Polish coal mines as described will do more to take coal out of the energy mix than all the political pontifications and confabulations could ever do. If and when the amount of energy to dig coal out of the ground becomes greater than the amount of energy that is supplied by burning the coal then goodnight coal industry, it’s been good while you lasted.
