This highlights one of the many failures of the standard climate models — the failure to take account of heat flow through the crust into the oceans. Sea bed hydrothermal venting has been known for decades but there has never been a reasonable survey to estimate the total heat flow. Part of the problem, as seen in this paper, is that the heating at the base of deep trenches is likely to be greater than elsewhere but is nearly inaccessible for measurement. Without accounting for this potential source of heating, the conclusions drawn from existing models are useless.
