Joel Kotkin had a good article in the Daily Beast looking at the tangible vs. the intangible economy. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/11/08/are-we-heading-for-an-economic-civil-war.html The latter generates high margins, have highly paid, highly educated small staffs that make up the upper middle class while the former is low margins, lower educational needs but larger staffs that made up middle and lower middle class. He makes the case that climate change policy is beating down the tangible economy and the middle class workers that make it go.
