Property taxes, property rights.
As my lovely and prescient wife points out, we don’t own our land, we are renting from the county and the school board, even though we don’t have a mortgage. If we lived in town we could rent from the City too.

Continually raising existing taxes and/or levying new taxes is NOT a ‘sustainable’ solution to the problem of a government that habitually spends more than it can extort from the productive workers of the population.
Take away their livelihoods. Take away their lands. Take away their options. Give it to yourselves. Sounds like Genghis Kahn figuring out a way to do it for their own good. I’m not sure that’s all that – to use one of their own words – sustainable.
Odd how, each and every time, the well off and environmentalism combine to produce more poverty, less freedom, and less diversity.
