Amen to that and I could not agree with you more.
What more people need to understand is that despite the fancy name and pompous credentials a journal is nothing more than a magazine. Their prime motivator is the same as every other publisher through history, circulation. All their lofty talk of academic standards and fairness are just an advertising ploy to entice their target niche. No publisher is ever going to make a name for themselves without deliberately choosing content based on how interesting or exciting it is. That means dire warnings and scary predictions will trump sensible validations of the status quo every day of the week.
