Green party’s proposed mandatory ‘veggie day’ causes ‘sh*tstorm’ in German elections — Are you listening Michelle O.?

Politico reports:

The elections set to take place here in Germany Sunday are expected to turn largely on the country’s solid economy, Chancellor Angela Merkel’s handling of the European debt crisis and social issues like women’s role in the work force. But add to that plate one more thing: Germans don’t want the government telling them what to eat.

Borrowing from colorfully from English, German newspaper Bild described public reaction to the idea as a “shitstorm.”

  1. How can the German Greens advocate vegecide with a clear conscience? Vegetables have feelings too. Perhaps the Greens should give up both meat and vegetables. Bonus they would soon stop breathing out evil CO2, thereby saving the rest of us from terrible global warming.

  2. In my opinion the biggest problem with an effort like this is that no one agrees on what a healthy diet is. It is all personal bias and propaganda. Honestly I would embrace a diet that had real and substantial health benefits. If there were such a diet the scientists, doctors and other “experts” wouldn’t have to play fast and loose with statistical tricks to “prove” their claims. You are just as likely to live into your 80’s eating meat and junk food as you are eating a vegetarian diet. There are of course serious illnesses, like diabetes, that benefit from a specific diet but other then that it is all superstition and fads.

  3. Drive inflation with rising energy costs. Kill jobs by shutting down industry. Literally kill the poor with energy poverty. But don’t mess with meat. It’s late in coming but hopefully this will be enough to get the German people to realize the greens aren’t their friends.
