Evangelical warmist Katharine Haythoe joins others in writing to Speaker Boehner:
The Bible tells us that “love does no harm to its neighbor” (Romans 13:10), yet the way we live now harms our neighbors, both locally and globally. For the world’s poorest people, climate change means dried-up wells in Africa, floods in Asia that wash away crops and homes, wildfires in the U.S. and Russia, loss of villages and food species in the Arctic, environmental refugees, and disease. Our changing climate threatens the health, security, and well-being of millions of people who are made in God’s image. The threat to future generations and global prosperity means we can no longer afford complacency and endless debate. We as a society risk being counted among “those who destroy the earth” (Revelation 11:18).
We call on you to pass meaningful legislation during this Congress to reduce carbon emissions and protect our environment, thereby strengthening the long-term outlook for our economy and our children.

Media coverage of global warming has been increasing for over twenty years. Major proponents include the United Nations, politicians, environmentalists, and celebrities. Oddly, the church has had little to say on the issue and has made scant use of Scripture to evaluate the alleged problem. This paper will identify the major goals of global warming advocates, propose a biblical (young-earth creationist) framework for evaluating the issue, and highlight basic scientific data related to the alleged claims. It will be shown that the Bible provides sufficient counsel to enable
Christians to evaluate the claims of global warming and arrive at a confident position that is in accord with real science. The contention that man’s activities are causing global warming, as described in the media and by its advocates, is a myth. There is no reason either biblically or scientifically to fear the exaggerated and misguided claims of catastrophe as a result of increasing levels of man-made carbon dioxide (CO2).

How does your reference support your claim that God sent “climate change” to challenge us? Are you interpreting the Bible to fit your own position? Are you speaking ex-rectum, as joefreeman cogently notes above? Are you the latest in a long line of Howard Campings that makes the Bible say what your preconceived ideas dictate? Since you love to quote the Bible, how about this: “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat (global warming/cooling–take your pick), and summer and winter, and day and night SHALL NOT CEASE” (Gen. 8:22).
Our beautiful Lord and Savior loves barbecues (so long as what we’re roasting for Him is the best of our flock)! He’s willing to forego the OT barbecues, however, in exchange for the NT admonition to “continually offer up a sacrifice of praise” (Heb 13:15).

I’m not exactly a deist myself, but I have learned that one can find Bible verses to support almost ANY position. Ecclesiastes tells us that climate change was sent by God to challenge us:
Ecc 1:13 “And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all [things] that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith.”
It sounds like Ms. Haythoe means well, but until someone can actually show that a human-caused CO2 increase causes her laundry list of damages, she’s just speaking ex rectum.
The Bible calls for good stewardship in lots of places. It also calls for the people to develop and become a mighty nation, which includes having children and economic growth. It calls for easing the lot of the poor; low-cost energy is one of the key methods of easing the lot of the poor.
The Bible also calls for holocaust sacrifices, burning a bull or a ram to ashes. That makes a lot of smoke, “a sweet savour to the Lord”, so using the Bible to condemn burning stuff is kind of fishy.
Well to give her her due, she at least wears her religion in public and owns up to it. Her eco-brethren have a bad habit of claiming actual science.
