Reuters reports:
Pope Francis’s stress on environmental protection since he was elected in March and his choice of the name of a 13th century nature lover – Saint Francis of Assisi – may make a difference for all religions trying to work out how to safeguard the planet from threats including climate change.
Saint Francis was a peaceful man. Let’s hope current pope can emulate the attitude of the religion’s founder towards human relationships, nevermind nature, and encourage others to do also. The world might be a better place. Then the environment may have a real chance.
The Church would be wise to condemn environmentalism as idolatry and move on.
