A not-unexpected political dodge. The Politicos can tell there is controversy over the issue, despite the claims by one side, so they are placing the ‘burden of proof’ (one way or the other) on somebody else. The ‘scientists’ will have to settle this among themselves, and by the time that gets done, the empirical data will be in to decide it for everybody. Only the ‘true believers’ will remain unpersuaded by the evidence.
