“[L]ying” is harsh and incorrect. You can have 12 0f the hottest years in the last 15 and have no warming either. One could be at apex of a sine like curve. Global temperatures are semi-continuous: rather small changes over short periods of time not having disruptive events like the Krakatoa volcanic eruption.
