… to thwart Obama.
“Several Wyoming lawmakers are proposing legislation designed to protect gun-owners from any potential federal firearm ban. The “Firearms Protection Act” bill, introduced this week, would make any federal law banning semi-automatic firearms or limiting the size of gun magazines unenforceable within the state’s boundaries.” [K2Radio.com]
I would gladly come to Wyoming and protect citizens from feds. What a great way to go. in my 73 year of freedom.
The feds can’t round up illegals by themselves, much less a whole state. And the cost of prosecution! Where would they put everyone? In Federal prisons? I believe Oklahoma has also passed a similar bill.
It’s quite likely that we’ll get the point of various cops trying to arrest each other and having a standoff with the Sheriff organizing out of Shipley’s and the Feds at Krispy Kreme.
Actually, sheriffs can arrest federal agents trying to enforce something the county doesn’t approve of/believes is unconstitutional.
Whether they’ll have the guts to do so remains to be seen, but the law is on their side.
While I agree with the spirit and intent of what they’re proposing, this would not provide much, if any, protection to Wyoming’s citizens. The best they could do is forbid any Wyoming law enforcement from cooperating with the feds in enforcing any such laws.
But, if the feds decide to roll into Cheyenne and start arresting people, there’s nothing the state could do about it but complain. Any active interference by state or local LEO’s in a federal law enforcement operation would result in a lot of LEO’s getting arrested by the feds.
If the state ordered it’s LEO’s to actively protect the citizens from the feds (highly unlikely) this could get ugly. Absolute worst case scenario, LEO’s and the feds come to blows and/or exchange gun fire. At this point you have a borderline revolt on your hands.
Again, I doubt the politicians of Wyoming would ever go this far. But, I would be curious to see of Obama has the stomach to really push it if they did.
I might have found my new home…
Maybe Wyoming should declare Democrats terrorists.
Yes, Montana passed a bill saying Federal Firearms laws don’t apply to arms made and sold in Montana.
I’m minded of the Fugitive Slave Acts and the various free-state dodges about them. It’s hard to say what affect state laws will have except as a message to Congress. But Montana has run conservative Legislatures for a couple of cycles now, yet we returned Jon Tester to the Senate. Mixed messages.

If states can do this with Federal marijuana bans, they can do it with Federal gun bans. And at the end of that slippery slope is… a limited Federal government. And then it would be back to basics, like the Constitution. Hehe, oh the horror, for the Lefties.
Go Wyoming!
