“President Obama has called for stricter federal gun laws to combat recent shooting rampages, but a review of recent state laws by The Washington Times shows no discernible correlation between stricter rules and lower gun-crime rates in the states.”

I guess “black against black” should maybe read “poor against poor”? Now that couldn’t be accused of racism, could it?
This may seem absurd or too obvious to mention, but has anyone studied the impact of laws making murder illegal?
And the most major stat: 54% of homicide by firearm discharge is committed by blacks against blacks. The rate is 2 per 100,000 per year amongst non-black Americans. The rate is 16 per 100,000 for black Americans. If there is a problem, that’s where it is. Keep that in mind as they throw statistics around.
I have not read the Washington Times piece, but generally you have to be very careful of “gun violence” statistics. They often include accidents, suicides, and people shot by police. While accidents and suicides might be reduced with lower gun ownership, that’s not what people are thinking of when you say “gun violence”. They are thinking of murders and assaults, so ask questions when you see these types of statistics. Know what they are really comparing.
Actually, yes, that would be included in lower overall crime rate
The data also do not show how many crimes are prevented or interrupted by a civilian using a gun.

Don’t believe them! There’s a correlation. A NEGATIVE one. Stricter rules correlate with HIGHER gun-crime rates.
