Claim: French fries cause aggressive prostate cancer

Fried chicken and doughnuts, too. Once a week is too much. Oh no… they contain AGEs!

“Regular consumption of deep-fried foods such as French fries, fried chicken and doughnuts is associated with an increased risk of prostate cancer, and the effect appears to be slightly stronger with regard to more aggressive forms of the disease, according to a study by investigators at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.” [FHCRC]

  1. We enjoyed donuts Sunday morning with our coffee, and fried chicken Sunday night for dinner. We aint scared. 🙂

Heavens. These junkscience scares get repeated for years, long after they’ve been debunked… over and over again. The FDA found 40% of our foods contain acrylamide, all perfectly healthful foods.

Baked potatoes and breads, by the way, have more than twice the levels of acrylamide than “greasy fried.”

  2. Acrylamides are also found in bread and coffee. I consume mass quantities of coffee and we have bread everyday with our dinner and my daughter takes a sandwich to school for lunch almost everyday.

So someone tell me the point of this article????

  3. Meh, 30 – 37% increased risk from self reported exposures (regular consumption = at least once a week). Nothing to see here – move along.
