“A world-leading ‘fat tax’ has been abolished in Denmark, with the country admitting the controversial attempt at engineering a healthier populace has failed. A planned tax on some high-sugar foods has also been abandoned, marking a setback for advocates of this method of encouraging health.
According to the Danish Ministry of Taxation the country’s tax on unhealthy, high-fat products had driven up prices and put jobs at risk…” [Nature]
Peas by the way are good for you, especially if you have any teeth left to chew them properly. I have yet to meet a doctor or food scientist who can explain with honesty and genuine sustainable scientific evidence, that the fat consumed that comes from healthy animals on their chosen natural diet (I’m talking butter, cream, eggs, fatty meat and fatty fish) is harmful to the human body – apart from when there is sheer gluttony. The Danish experiment is another example of “experts” who don’t have a clue, and democracies based on dictatorship by the ignorant. And I thought the Danes were intelligent? (I though ALL humans were intelligent – big mistaken thought.)
Lord save us from those that would help us!
You know your government is too big when… it starts telling you to eat your peas. Do gooders never fail to do more harm than good. It is in their nature.
“According to the Danish Ministry of Taxation the country’s tax on unhealthy, high-fat products had driven up prices and put jobs at risk…”
And nobody saw that coming?
“policy wonks have increasingly looked to legislation to control what people eat.”
Just what the people need . . . people in a distant city controlling what they eat. You know your government is too big when . . . .
” the country’s tax on unhealthy, high-fat products had driven up prices and put jobs at risk”
Surprise surprise!
