The US likely isn’t participating because Obama is shortly up for re-election — poor timing for the UN. If this were set for *after* the US election, the US would be in there with the rest of them. If that rationale is reasonable, we should expect even worse from Obama if he’s re-elected. That’s a real possibility, as the vote will be about ‘anyone other than Obama’ but no real enthusiasm over the Republican candidate.
