Stewart: Should Ohio institute a fracking moratorium? | No

“A quick review of the facts shows a moratorium wouldn’t benefit the majority of Ohioans who desire to see the state, its people and its communities succeed in an increasingly competitive global economy.”

EnergyInDepth’s Thomas Stewart writes in the Columbus Dispatch:

…The economic benefits that oil and natural-gas development provide communities cannot be emphasized enough. This can be seen in a review of 2010 Census data by Sentier Research, which showed what many of us already know: a large majority of states hemorrhaged jobs and personal wealth during the ongoing recession. The study also found that 10 states saw a rise in household income during the recession. It certainly wasn’t a coincidence that seven of these states boast oil and natural-gas development as a significant contributor to their economy…
