Sierra Club warns against Texas export plans for coal

Will Big Coal crush the Sierra Club before the Sierra Club crushes it?

Greenwire reports:

The Sierra Club in a report released this week is sounding the alarm about potential increased coal exports from the Port of Corpus Christi, Texas.

The environmental group said it obtained documents showing the port leaders are considering amending a growth proposal to include more coal shipments. The club’s report said one idea is to scrap plans for a multiuse dock to develop a coal export bulk terminal.

“Indeed, while the city is looking to gain momentum by bringing in new economic activity focused around sustainability and quality of life improvements,” the report said, “the Port of Corpus Christi is instead looking to add new customers that lock Corpus to volatile markets and dirty coal”…
