This deal with Cheasapeake was a backroom deal made by the former director of the Sierra Club, Carl Pope. The new director and the current board of directors were kept in the dark. Michael Brune says he'd like to restore integrity to the Club. I'm willing to give him a chance to do it. Burning fossil fuels got us into the climate change/war for oil mentality and burning cannot get us out. Einstein said that the same kind of thinking that got you into the pickle cannot get you out! We can build our buildings so the sun and earth can heat and light them. The wind can make electricity for our vehicle I've told Brune that and the Sierra Club needs to get back to its grassroots and occasionally take a US president to see what is at stake like John Muir did with teddy Roosevelt . The country benefited when that happened.

One point about this story that has been overlooked is that Chesapeake thought it could buy the Sierra Club's loyalty. Now they know that SC can only be rented for short periods of time. Moreover, SC will turn on you at its pleasure. SC has become one of the most visible opponents of fraking. Making a deal with SC is akin to selling your soul to the devil.

"cut off these donations" means they kept the $26 million.
"taking care of the workers in the mines and at coal-burning utilities" does not appear to include helping the workers cope with unemployment or finding them other equally well-paying jobs.
