Katharine Hayhoe states in an interview with the NGO Responding to Climate Change (RTCC):
… I don’t see myself as being on any one side of this divide, but what people are doing is forcing a decision. I put myself squarely in the middle – my husband is a pastor, a Christian author and I share most conservative values with people.
I’m a Christian myself but at the same time I am a climate scientist, and I study what’s really going on in the world, which I believe the truth has been revealed in God’s creation…so these are terms that people can identify with.
I am a person in the middle, but for some people that is not an acceptable place to be. You’re not allowed to be in the middle, you’re not allowed to bridge the gap – unfortunately that’s one of the risks of what I do…
Hiding behind religion to assert that climate alarmism is “in the middle”? Does her faith put her beyond reproach?

The Earth’s problem is NOT a trace level change, in a benign trace level gas, that is MANDATORY for all life forms. Amazing fence rail sitting here! There is a difference between Christian moderation and being a moderate. One is about personal habits and the other is a lack of moral clarity or even moral cowardice. It is always so edifying to see someone jump up and proudly proclaim that they believe in nothing while denigrating those who insist that some things really are right and some things really are wrong. That is what being a moderate really means.
It reminds me of those “moderates” who claim that those on both sides of the abortion issue can find common ground. Horsepucky! William F. Buckley outlined the issue clearly and succinctly. He said that the only reason to be against of abortion is because you believe it is murder, and the only reason to be in favor of abortion is because you don’t believe it is murder.
Actually there is a logical fallacy that covers this situation and is called the “if-by-whiskey” fallacy based on a speech in 1952 by Noah S. “Soggy” Sweat, Jr. as to whether Mississippi should continue to prohibit (which it did until 1966) or finally legalize alcoholic beverages and it goes like this:

But, if when you say whiskey you mean the oil of conversation, the philosophic wine, the ale that is consumed when good fellows get together, that puts a song in their hearts and laughter on their lips, and the warm glow of contentment in their eyes; if you mean Christmas cheer; if you mean the stimulating drink that puts the spring in the old gentleman’s step on a frosty, crispy morning; if you mean the drink which enables a man to magnify his joy, and his happiness, and to forget, if only for a little while, life’s great tragedies, and heartaches, and sorrows; if you mean that drink, the sale of which pours into our treasuries untold millions of dollars, which are used to provide tender care for our little crippled children, our blind, our deaf, our dumb, our pitiful aged and infirm; to build highways and hospitals and schools, then certainly I am for it.
This is my stand. I will not retreat from it. I will not compromise.
Moderates will be the death of us all.
