Not Enough To Do: GOP Congressmen working on henhouse standards

It’s 2012 and Obama is burning America down: California Congressmen Elton Gallegly, Sam Farr and Jeff Denham do you know where your heads are?

Greenwire reports,

Bipartisan House legislation introduced yesterday by Oregon Democrat Kurt Schrader would establish a national standard for cages for egg-laying hens, mirroring an agreement last year between an animal rights organization and an egg industry group.

The bill would require egg producers to roughly double the cage size for hens over the next 15 to 18 years. It would also limit ammonia levels in henhouses; require cages to provide perches, nesting boxes and scratching areas; and mandate labeling on all U.S. egg cartons.

California Republicans Elton Gallegly, Sam Farr and Jeff Denham are co-sponsors…

“This one-size-fits-all farm takeover bill is government intrusion on family farms at its worst and is unnecessary,” said Doug Wolf, president of the National Pork Producers Council. “If enacted, it would open Pandora’s Box for special interest groups to pursue similar federal laws on pig farmers, dairy farmers and other family farming operations.”

  1. If the Tea Party can’t be controlled by the socialists, let’s control their chickens, goats, cows, pigs, dogs, and cats. That will get them to listen to them. After all, dumb animals know that liberals are just doing it for their own good.

  2. And this is all from people that not only have not farmed a day in their life, but have probably never even been on a real farm. What a bunch of dumb clucks.
