Lufthansa gives up on biofuels

Greenwire reports,

Lufthansa announced Friday it is ending its biofuel trial program, just a day after the German airline completed the first commercial trans-Atlantic flight powered on biofuels.

The airlines says it isn’t abandoning the cleaner-burning fuels, but cost concerns are holding the program back.

The cleaner fuel can cost as much as 2.5 times more than traditional jet fuel, making it untenable for widespread use even with subsidies from the European Union and other government bodies…
