“You will not hear much about [Fred] Singer — or other dissenting scientists — in the mainstream media. They do not fit their template.”
Free Press columnist Bob Jentges writes,
In its Dec. 26 edition, The Free Press editorial titled “Embrace of global warming gives faith” (1) cited an article by Katharine Hayhoe. The opening sentence in the editorial was: “Hallelujah to sounding the word about climate change.”
Since Professor Hayhoe is married to an evangelical pastor and the daughter of missionaries, the editorial seems to jump to the conclusion that if a Christian and scientist has bought into anthropogenic global warming, AKA human-caused global warming, it is settled science.
Science is never settled — science can not find absolute truth; it can only prove something absolutely false.
In his My View, published Jan. 4,(2) Fred Slocum claims “…overwhelming (97 percent) consensus on (global) warming from credentialed climate scientists.” Scientific truth is not determined by consensus. Just look at “More than 1,000 International Scientists Dissent Over Man-made Global Warming Claims” at www.climatedepot.com.
(3) Moreover, in his Jan. 1 American Thinker article titled: “Fake! Fake! Fake! Fake!” (4) one of those scientists, S. Fred Singer, takes a different position than Hayhoe. Before buying into AGW I recommend reading Professor Singer’s recent article. Singer’s credentials are impressive. Singer is professor emeritus at the University of Virginia and director of the Science & Environmental Project. He is a senior fellow of the Heartland Institute and of the Independent Institute. His specialty is atmospheric and space physics. An expert in remote sensing and satellites, he served as the founding director of the U.S. Weather and Satellite Service and, more recently, as vice chair of the U.S. National Advisory Committee on Oceans and Atmosphere. He is co-author of Climate Change Reconsidered (2009 and 2011) and of unstoppable Global Warming (2007). He might be a Christian, too.
You will not hear much about Singer — or other dissenting scientists — in the mainstream media. They do not fit their template. So believe what you choose, but the way I see it AGW is not “settled science” — at least not yet.
