Ban Ki-moon: Durban pact ‘defied’ skeptics

Actually, he only defied himself at Durban.

Greenwire reports,

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon sounded a defiant note today in his last press conference of the year, telling reporters that negotiators in Durban, South Africa, were victorious over climate change skeptics.

In his opening remarks here, Ban praised the Durban Platform as a success that he believes demonstrates the legitimacy of the United Nations. He also took on criticism of the climate talks directly, much of it based in the United States and the U.S. Senate.

“At Durban, we defied the skeptics,” he said. “There is a broader lesson: The United Nations has never been so needed”…

But Durban only resulted in an agreement to work toward an agreement that would take effect in 2020.

But in 2009, Ban Ki-moon said,

We have just four months. Four months to secure the future of our planet.

  1. Just the act of having to claim legitimacy of the UN suggests there is something to hide. I am waiting for the the Great Revelation of the treason behind the UN and their lack of legitimacy. Maybe 2012 will be that year of revolution as predicted by Nostradamus. Wasn’t the doom and gloom in the Book of Revelations?

  2. There is nothing legitimate about the UN and the US needs to stop pounding our tax dollars down this rat hole of corruption. Nothing was gained by replacing Goofey Anon with Ki-Moon.

  3. climate fear-mongers are like used car salesmen – ACT NOW or this car won’t be here for you in an hour! HURRY buy now or you won’t get this finance package! or in the case of the Chicken Little UN Sec-Gen “We have to act now to save the planet!” The worst that could happen is the gravy train running out of steam before he gets to dip his beak
